That’s exactly why I created this guide — a simple, realistic wedding day timeline built from years of photographing weddings across Chicago, Lombard, and Plainfield. This is the timeline that keeps your day smooth, stress‑free, and beautifully documented.

A well‑planned wedding timeline protects three things:

• Your peace

• Your photos

• Your memories

Below is the structure most couples follow, with exact time blocks and what happens during each part of the day.

💍 Morning: Getting Ready (2–3 Hours)

This is where the story begins — details, emotions, laughter, and anticipation.

• Bridal details — rings, dress, shoes, invitations, perfume

• Hair & makeup — aim to finish 30 minutes before your photographer arrives

• Getting ready photos — candid moments with your bridal party

• Groom prep — tie, jacket, boutonniere, gifts

Ideal start time:  If your ceremony is at 4 PM, photography usually begins around 12:30–1:00 PM.

📸 First Look & Portraits (45–60 Minutes)

A first look is optional, but it gives you more time for portraits and reduces stress later.

If you skip the first look, we’ll move most portraits after the ceremony — but that means less time during cocktail hour.

⛪ Ceremony (30–60 Minutes)

Tip: Tell your officiant to step aside before the kiss — it makes the photo cleaner.

• Guests enjoying drinks and appetizers

Sunset portraits are magic — soft light, warm tones, and a moment to breathe together.

🍽️ Reception (3–4 Hours)

Your reception timeline usually includes:
